An awareness campaign on child trafficking, Jointly organized by Slum Children STEDS and CRY was held in the month of August 2023. The motto of the campaign was to address the issue of child trafficking and prevention of the child from traffickers.
The campaign was held at slum localities of MGR Nagar, SM Nagar, JJR Nagar, A and B Kalyanapuram, Mallipoo colony in addition to locality schools, adolescent collectives of slums and sports academy.
The Sensitization of Adolescent girls, frontline stakeholders, parents, community based organizations on the issue of child trafficking and adoptation of preventive measures were all adhered in this campaign.
The campaign addressed the issue through slum home visits, Tamil folk art presentation namely thappatam. This troop carried the message of campaign with songs, drama and dance. The Slum dweller families in large numbers attended and watched keenly the presentation by the consultants, coordinators, volunteers and the folk troop. Around 900 slum dweller families and 400 children attended this awareness program. The local people of slums assured the team that in future on sighting any child straying away they would intimate us for immediate safeguarding and protection of the child.
